2024 TD Five Boro Bike Tour
The TD Five Boro Bike Tour relies on the support of volunteers to assist and motivate more than 32,000 riders along the route all across the city. Volunteers keep participants safe and make the event enjoyable by providing directional support, fixing flat tires, handing out water and snacks, and cheering riders along the route and across the finish line. We hope that you'll join us!

Please note that registering to volunteer is a commitment to completing your entire volunteer shift and following the directions of your area lead(s). If your availability changes, it is your responsibility to let the Bike New York team know as soon as possible. Questions and cancellations can be sent to tourvols@bike.nyc.

COURSE MARSHALS
Course Marshals keep the TD Five Boro Bike Tour participants safe and well-informed during the Tour! Course Marshals are stationed along the route and support participants by alerting them to specific road conditions, assisting with crowd control and road emergencies, encouraging slow riders, and providing information to participants, spectators, and nearby residents. 🚲All Course Marshals must attend one orientation session offered several times prior to the Tour (details to follow.) 🚲Course Marshals are required to bring their own bicycle, helmet, and bike lock to be able to ride from the Volunteer Check-In location to their designated post. 🚲 If Course Marshals have the necessary flat fix and bike mechanic skills, they may continue along the Tour route as Rider Assist Marshals after their Course Marshal duties are complete and they have been dismissed by their Captain. 🚲Volunteers must have good customer service skills, as you will be interacting with the public. 🚲Course Marshals must be 18 or older by May 5, 2024. 🚲This position is located outdoors, rain or shine. 🚲Checkout times vary based on event timing. 🚲A confirmation email for each shift you sign up for will be sent the week prior to the event.

START AREA MARSHALS
Start Area Marshals work under the supervision of a Captain to keep the Tour running smoothly and safely by providing assistance at the start and along the route. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: providing information and crowd control in your zone until the designated start time, offering skills in flat fix and bike repair, responding to road emergencies, providing information to participants along the route, encouraging slow riders, and assisting riders boarding SAG (support and gear) buses. Start Area Marshals also help Captains and Course Marshals along the Tour who are in need of assistance. At the end of the Tour, Start Area Marshals check out at the Finish Festival in Staten Island and enjoy lunch. 🚲Open to prior-year volunteers only. 🚲All Start Area Marshals must attend one orientation session offered several times during April. Details regarding these orientations to follow. 🚲Basic bike repair knowledge, such as; dropped chain realignment, helmet fitting, pedal wrenching, and tube patching, is a must. 🚲Start Area Marshals should be able to ride at least 40 miles and are required to bring their own bicycle, helmet and bike lock to be able to ride from the Volunteer Check-in to the Finish Festival. 🚲Volunteers must have good customer service skills, as you will be interacting with the public. 🚲Start Area Marshals must be 18 or older by May 5, 2024. 🚲This position is located outdoors, rain or shine. 🚲Checkout times vary based on release from Captain. 🚲A confirmation email for each shift you sign up for will be sent the week prior to the Event.

STATIONARY SUPPORT / EVENT DAY VOLUNTEERS
Stationary Support Volunteers work in teams under the direction of a Captain or Tour Staff. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: setting up tables, serving snacks and beverages at Rest Areas and Water Stations, assisting riders at Information Areas, providing information to spectators and community members, and working at the Finish Festival on Staten Island. Bike riding skills are not required. Volunteer groups are welcome! ***Please note that Stationary Support / Event Day Volunteers do not ride the TD Five Boro Bike Tour***
STATIONARY VOLUNTEERS

Stationary Volunteers set up equipment and supplies, clean up, and help with break down. You will also help keep the Five Boro Bike Tour participants safe and well informed during the Tour by: alerting them to specific road conditions, assisting with crowd control and road emergencies, encouraging slow riders, and providing information to participants, spectators, and nearby residents. Please note that this is not a riding position. 🚲Stationary Volunteers do not ride the TD Five Boro Bike Tour. 🚲All Stationary Volunteers must attend one orientation session offered several times during April. Details regarding these orientations to follow. 🚲Volunteers must have good customer service skills, as you will be interacting with the public. 🚲Some age restrictions apply. Rest Area Volunteers and Water Stop Volunteers help set up, operate, and break down a designated stop along the route. Tasks may include: setting up tables, filling up water coolers or handing out drinks, placing snacks on tables, and cleaning up trash and recyclables. This is a great opportunity for groups and individuals to be part of the action cheering on riders while keeping them hydrated and fed along their 40 mile journey! 🚲Volunteers should have good customer service skills, as you will be interacting with the public. 🚲Some age restrictions apply. Finish Festival Volunteers help set up, operate, and break down the Finish Festival where riders will celebrate after completing their 40-mile Tour. Tasks might include: setting up tables, filling up water coolers or handing out water, placing snacks on tables, picking up trash and recyclables, handing out the participant medals, and providing directions to attendees. Help finishers celebrate their epic ride! 🚲Volunteers should have good customer service skills, as you will be interacting with the public. 🚲Some age restrictions apply. ORIENTATIONS

As part of the commitment to Volunteer at the 2024 TD Five Boro Bike Tour, we require all marshals attend an orientation session. All orientations will be held virtually. New Volunteers must attend a Live virtual training via Zoom. Returning volunteers have the option of watching a pre-recorded presentation.

TUESDAY, APRIL 16 | 5:30-6:30 PM | During this live virtual orientation, we will go through the expectations and requirements for volunteering at the TD Five Boro Bike Tour. You'll be able to ask questions using the chat option and talk to other marshals about tour day. This is required for ALL NEW MARSHALS, and is open to returning volunteers.
